SILSDEN is gearing up for its popular annual Christmas market.

The event – which also heralds the switching-on of the town's festive lights – takes place on Sunday, November 27.

A wide range of stalls will be held in the town hall, between 10am and 3pm.

Goods on sale will include Christmas cards, stocking fillers, jigsaws, books, make-up and festive wreaths.

And there'll be raffles and bottle pulls.

The Silsden Gala team, which organises the event, will be manning the kitchen – and serving refreshments including tea, coffee, bacon sandwiches and mulled wine.

On the first floor, Santa Claus will be in attendance.

Silsden's Christmas lights are being switched on at 4.30pm by vicar the Rev David Griffiths, after carols around the manger in the war memorial area.

Duncan Turner, chair of the gala team, says: "We are hoping for another successful event for the people of Silsden to enjoy, and we're also hopeful that Santa will do another tour of the town as he did last year.

"Some team members are wishing for another snowfall, whilst those looking after the road closure – and people with stalls and rides in Briggate – are probably hoping for a dry event!"
