SEVERAL schools in Craven have recently received an early Christmas present of £500 each from Earby based charity, the Robert Windle's Foundation.
The charity, based at The Old Grammar School in School Lane, Earby, has given grants to 10 schools in the area, including Gisburn Road School in Barnoldswick, Earby Spring Field, Kelbrook Primary, West Craven High School, Lothersdale Primary and Thornton-in-Craven Primary.
A spokesperson for the charity said it had been a good year for the charity with its continuing programme upgrading and maintaining the old grammar school and the giving out of grants to local groups and schools.
The kitchen upgrade is completed and has been awarded a five star hygiene rating from Pendle Borough Council, and the new Morris Cafe opened earlier in the year is proving very popular.
Meanwhile, the charity is establishing a fund to pay for repairs needed on the grade two listed building, such as repairs to the roof, which need to be carried out in the next eight years.
The shop and cafe at the Old Grammar School is open on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. There is also a craft group on Wednesday evenings.
