POLICE on the A59 near Skipton yesterday (Saturday) recorded a motorist travelling at 101mph - more than 40mph over the speed limit - and in poor weather conditions.

The North Yorkshire Police Traffic Bureau tweeted earlier today: "To the driver who was recorded travelling at 101mph in a 60mph limit nr #Skipton #A59 yesterday.

"Unacceptable driving at this speed despite the presence of flood water in the road, hailstone and wet road conditions.You will have to explain your driving to a Magistrates Court."

The North Yorkshire Police Traffic Bureau works to reducing road traffic collisions and casualties by addressing inappropriate road use and improving road safety. It includes the siting of police safety camera vans on roads where speeding is likely to take place.
