THE complete set of JS Bach’s iconic ‘Brandenburg Concertos’ will be performed in two concerts in Skipton in the coming months.

Skipton Building Society Camerata, North Yorkshire’s only professional orchestra, have announced its first two concerts this year in Skipton Town Hall on Friday, March 24 and Friday, June 30.

These will include all six of Bach’s ‘Brandenburg Concertos’, a true highlight of the Baroque era, alongside music by two 20th century composers, Igor Stravinsky and Heitor Villa Lobos, both of whom were inspired by the Brandenburgs.

The concerts also feature music by Sibelius, Ives and the premieres of two new works by Bobbie-Jane Gardner and Ben Gaunt.

Skipton Camerata, composed of talented professional musicians, is dedicated to delivering exceptional live performances and providing audiences with a rich musical experience.

The concerts are a testament to the ensemble’s commitment to presenting innovative and engaging programs that showcase the best of classical and contemporary music.

“We’re thrilled to bring ‘Bach and Beyond’ to rural Skipton,” said Ben Crick, artistic director of Skipton Camerata.

“These concerts will display the timeless beauty of Bach’s music alongside works that push the boundaries of classical music. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the diversity of the genre.”

Tickets for the two concerts are available now from Skipton Town Hall with a discount for booking both events.

On Thursday, February 23, Skipton Camerata will be taking part in a concert for Manorlands Hospice featuring Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at The Devonshire Institute, Grassington.

The orchestra will join soprano, Nicola Mills; narrator, John Anderson and Sophie Rosa, violin/director, for the concert which is being held in memory of Alison Fort. Alison was a much-loved member of the community, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year and died in Manorlands in October.

The Camerata will join violinist Sophie Rosa for a performance of the Four Seasons with narration by John Anderson.

It will be followed by a medley of songs from the ever-popular Nicola Mills drawn from her one woman shows Opera for the People and A Spoonful of Julie.
