A CHARITY set up as a legacy of a former old boy of Ermysted's Grammar School who went on to become a successful lawyer will soon be handing out grants to students educated at Skipton's secondary schools.
The Sylvester Petyt's Charity is welcoming applications from students for small grants towards their university or college education for the year 2023/24.
Sylvester Petyt was a successful lawyer in London in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, who decided to help the people of Skipton in various ways. This charity is one result of philanthropy.
John Dawson, a trustee and honorary clerk of the charity, said “We seek applications from Skipton students. We ask the Skipton schools and Craven College to advertise this too. We hope our small contributions can assist students with equipment or books needed on their courses.”
Applying students must be under 25 years of age and live - or their parents must live - in the ancient parish of Skipton, that is Skipton, Barden, Beamsley, Bolton Abbey, Halton East, Draughton, Hazlewood-with-Storiths or Embsay with Eastby.
Application forms can be obtained from John Dawson at john.dawson@bbmax.co.uk or by writing to 42 Gainsborough Court, Skipton BD23 1QG.
