I WAS pleased to see that the Craven Herald had received a legacy award from the outgoing district council. It is richly deserved.
At a time when other local communities are having to rely solely on on-line newspapers or worse still social media for their local news, we are fortunately indeed to have the Craven Herald and Pioneer, which as you tell us each week, has been the voice of the dales since 1853.
You might no longer have the resources to seek out the news from every community, as you did in the last century, and have to rely increasingly on the news sense of readers to let you know what is going on, but you do provide a platform for all shades of political opinion in your letters column and where would we be without your sports reports and neighbourhood news?
We can only hope that, relying perhaps on the publicly funded local democracy reporters, you will continue to be able to report what is being done and said on our behalf by our elected representatives on the new North Yorkshire Council in far-away Northallerton.
