GARDENERS and bakers were in force at Grassington and District Horticultural Society's spring show.

Some 31 people entered a total 290 exhibits in classes in flowers, flower arranging, baking and preserves. There were also classes for children at the show held at Grassington Town Hall.

Glenda Priestnall won not only the Cunningham Trophy for the most points in the show, but also the Society Tankard for the best exhibit in the flower section.

Sheila Carr was another double trophy winner, obtaining the society’s Vase for the best exhibit in the flower arranging and the society’s Rose Bowl for the most points in the flower arranging classes.

Hilary Hobson was awarded the Bloomfield Cup for the most points in the flowers section, as well as the Lockyer Award for the best orchid.

The Twin Locks trophy, for best exhibit in the flowers section, was won by Karen Darwin, while the society’s cup for baking was won by Judy Booth. The Joan Bielby Salver for the most points in the preserves section went to Philip Johnson.

Andy Booth, chairman of the Grassington and District Horticultural Society, thanked show secretary Angela Beetham, the helpers and all those who supported the event. Donations to the society on the door made £95, the raffle £78, the tombola £99 and teas and coffees £64.

The society extended its warmest thanks to the judges: Keith Jackson, flowers and plants; Susan Fairhurst, flower arrangements, and Christine Clarkson, for baking and produce.
