A SKIPTON man who made off without paying a taxi fare and failed to turn up to his hearing in court has been sentenced.

Kai Bailey, 20, formerly of Cross Street, Skipton, but now of Crag View Road, Skipton, was due to appear at Skipton Magistrates' Court on Friday, April 21, to face a charge of making off without paying a £126 taxi fare in relation to a journey from Harrogate to Skipton on Christmas Day last year.

When he failed to appear at court a warrant not backed by bail was issued. Bailey subsequently appeared at York Magistrates' Court on April 26.

He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Magistrates ordered he pay compensation to the taxi company of £126.

No order for costs or surcharge was made.
