FORMER partners of a 32-year old former South Craven man jailed last week for five years and four months after admitting grievous bodily harm with intent have spoken of their relief that he is now behind bars.
Zak Peat, (also known as Zac Peat) of Valley View, Keighley, and formerly of Silsden and Glusburn, was due to stand trial at Bradford Crown Court on Wednesday last week for grievous bodily harm with intent against Charlotte Beck and damaging property at an address in Oakworth on December 3, 2022, but changed his plea.
He was jailed for five years and four months for causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and one month for criminal damage, to be served concurrently - at the same time. He was also in breach of suspended prison sentences of eight months and of four months. Both were activated to be served concurrently.
Following sentence, Charlotte Beck, who had been in a relationship with Peat for just eight weeks, told the Herald the attack against her in December last year left her with a broken spine and a broken nose.
She said: "Zak is exactly where he should be. I am left with injuries that will severely effect me for the rest of my life, both mentally and physically. I now have the task of rebuilding my life with my children."
Another former partner, Leigh Mason, who Peat admitted offences against including assault and criminal damage, between 2017 and 2020, and in 2020 and 2022 the breach of a restraining order, added:"I am absolutely thrilled by the outcome, I have complete admiration for Charlotte who has shown determination, strength and resilience.
"I know exactly the fear Charlotte will have felt, domestic abuse is never okay and I urge anyone in these circumstances to seek help, get away and report it to the police and use Clare's Law."
