SKIPTON Auction Mart’s third seasonal breeding sheep sale produced a strong trade for 221 outfits of sheep and lambs, notably hoggs with lambs, the 110 outfits of meeting a flying trade to average £240. (Mon, May 29) Taking first and second prizes in the hoggs and lambs show were local husband and wife, Sam and Jen Bradley, who farm near Addingham, with two solid Texel pens with single lambs. Sam, who works for Skipton NFU at its mart-based local headquarters, had a very strong packet of quality hoggs right through, with five lots, including his red rosette winners, making £290, two pens of hoggs with twins doing better at £310 per outfit. Both were section tops.

The third prize show pen from Richard Stockdale, Burnsall, made £240 per outfit, while topping the market outright were Foulridge’s Anthony Thompson and Emma Dalby with two outfits of quality pure Beltex shearling with twins both making £500.
