A YOUNG deer had a narrow escape when it attempted to cross the Settle-Carlisle Line on Saturday (June 3) just as steam loco Scots Guardsman was heading its way.
Photographer Philip Winstanley captured No. 46115 Scots Guardsman at Settle Junction, at the southern end of the Settle-Carlisle Line, and also near Gisburn, where the deer can be seen coming out from some trees and running almost in front of the loco, before sensibly thinking better of it and heading back the way it came.
