CAVE rescue volunteers went to the aid of a walker whose Dobermann dog went lame in one leg as the pair tackled Penyghent.
Having already walked Whernside and Ingleborough, the two highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks on Friday (August 4), the normally able hill-walking dog went lame in one leg on the west side of Penyghent and could go no further.
A spokesperson for the Clapham based Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) said the team received a call from the female walker at 4.36pm on Friday.
"The owner struggled to carry the dog and had to abandon the attempt, despite the assistance of other walkers. Two team members drove to the casualty site in CRO 4 (off-road vehicle) and, after experiencing some difficulty in persuading him to get in, owner and dog were taken on board and driven back to their car, parked near Ribblehead.
"As always, we wish the casualty well and hope he is recovered and back out on the hills soon."
