SO, the makers of Monopoly have chosen the Yorkshire Dales for their next version of everyone's favourite board game.
Over the years, there have been many special editions of the game, a Beatles Monopoly, a Star Wars Monopoly, an Only Fools and Horses edition and a Cotswolds Monopoly, presumably the game of choice for the Chipping Norton Set.
And now, we will have our very own Yorkshire Dales Monopoly - due to hit the shelves in the spring of next year.
Makers of the game say the Dales was chosen out of nine other places of outstanding natural beauty, including The Amazon Rain Forest and America's Grand Canyon.
They have an idea what and where will be included on the board, but Craven folk have until the end of the month to put forward their own suggestions. And it's not just the locations and landmarks, it wants suggestions for to fill those famous squares, it's the tokens used by players, and the Community Chest and Chance cards.
Its a rich harvest indeed. Starting with the obvious, the top hat token, as worn by Mr Monopoly himself, that will clearly have to be replaced with a flat cap; and the racing car token, clearly, that will have to be a Land Rover, with a 'COW' or 'TUP' numberplate if at all possible. Moving onto the locations - Skipton Castle and Bolton Abbey in place of Park Lane and Mayfair, perhaps, Settle Victoria Hall for Leicester Square, and Settle Railway Station, both a must. The Craven Herald, of course, will have to occupy Fleet Street.
As for Chance and Community Chest, fines will have to be for walkers who leave gates open in the countryside, while players could receive cash prizes for winning best Victoria Sponge at Kilnsey Show.
