TEACHERS at Ermysted's Grammar School in Skipton say the school's students have much to celebrate today after receiving their A-level results.
Deputy head teacher, Adam Jackson, spoke of his pride at how the students performed in the exams, paying tribute to their hard work, talent and resilience, especially given the disruption to their learning caused by the pandemic, meaning that these were the first formal public examinations sat by this year group.
This year, the grade boundaries for A-levels were brought in line with pre-pandemic levels, meaning that, nationally, the percentage of top grades was expected to decline.
Mr Jackson said: “It is particularly impressive that, despite these circumstances, close to a quarter of the students achieved at least three A or A star grades. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress onto the next stage of their education or career; we wish them all the very best in the future.”
The very large majority of students secured a place at university for September across an impressive range of institutions both home and abroad, including 11 students who have accepted a place at Oxford or Cambridge. Others will now commence training or enter the workplace, with the remainder intending to take a gap year and re-apply in 2024.
Head of Year 13, Tom Hodgson, added: “It has been a pleasure to lead these students through their sixth form careers.
"They have shown good humour, positivity and resilience over the past two years and deserve their success. They have been a particularly impressive year group and we will miss them.”
