A GRASSINGTON couple are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today, Thursday, September 14.
Donald Whyte, from Hebden, and Muriel Busfield, from Grassington, met - as many people did in those days - at a dance in Grassington.
They later married at St Michael's and All Angels' Church, in Linton, in 1963.
Muriel worked at Reckitt and Coleman Dettol factory, in Skipton, before working later as a caretaker at Grassington Primary School and later in domestic work at Ashfield House Hotel, in Grassington.
Donald was an apprentice joiner with Patrick builders, in Grassington, when he left school, returning to the business after completing National Service, in Kenya. He also worked for Kent's furniture manufacturers.
Retirement saw the couple travelling around the world, something they thoroughly enjoyed.
The couple have four children - Ian, Neil, Stuart and John; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Muriel said the secret to a long, happy marriage was 'being patient'.
