CHILDREN in the fancy dress competition rose to the challenge of 'what I want to be' and went along as vets, racing car drivers, jockeys and explorers - and even Willy Wonka.
The event, which was declared a great success included singing and dancing, children's sports, a fell race and a tug 'o war competition in honour of the much loved landlady of the New Inn, Jayne Savoury, who died earlier this year at the age of 62.
Gala queen Georgia Rowe and her attendants were treated to afternoon tea with the guests of honour, Gillian and Jacqueline Nelson, and the Cononley Women’s Institute ran tea and cakes in the sports club.
Anne-Marie Bremner, of the organising committee, said: "The weather stayed dry and the packed day of events included Cononley Singers, May School of Dance, Unique Cheer and Dance and the dog show.
"The children sprinted, carried eggs and hobbled three-legged in the sports events and powered up the steep hill at the back of the village in the fell race. Playing Fields cup winners were Annabel Farrell and Ronnie Brewer. The fell race trophies were won by Maya Greening and Dexter Woodward.
"The tug of war was held in honour of the much-loved landlady, Jayne Savoury. So it was fitting that The New Inn won despite strong competition from The Railway.
"The proceeds from the day will support Cononley Primary School and also pay for essential maintenance of the Cononley Playing Field."
She added: "The organising committee would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved for putting in a sensational effort to make the day a success and to everyone who came along to enjoy the day."
