A PLAN to build a detached house in land currently used as a garden next to Highgate House, Park Road in Cross Hills has been given the go-ahead by North Yorkshire Council.

Officers, under delegated powers, have approved the scheme for the two-storey, four bedroom house which will feature natural stone walling and blue roof slates, and aluminium framed doors and windows.

Glusburn and Cross Hills Parish Council raised concerns about the potential loss of several mature trees on the site. Of the 18 trees on the site, ten will be kept. The eight to go were assessed by the council's officer who concluded they were not of a high value and had no objection to their loss.

The highways authority raised no objections and in recommending approval, officers said there were no grounds to withhold planning consent.
