A PLANNED bridge closure at Coniston Cold has been put on hold.
North Yorkshire Highways was hoping to replace damaged block work early on Sunday, December 10, with a four-hour road closure up to 9am, then a two-day traffic lights system while the wall set.
The work is necessary after a road traffic collision between two vehicles caused damage several weeks ago to the parapets at both sides.
However, the work to the bridge was only going to go ahead if Lancashire County Council Highways had completed its work at another bridge along the A682 at Newsholme, between Long Preston and Gisburn. The reason was because diversions currently in place would create difficulties for road users.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Highways confirmed the A65 delay but said a new date has not yet been confirmed.
It was also suggested on social media that the delay was also being caused by the lack of a piece of equipment. The reason for the current delay has not been confirmed.
The news will be a relief for Gargrave Village Hall Management Committee which was hosting the last Collectables and Flea Market of the year this coming Sunday and which feared potential diversions or delays would put people off going.
A new date for the work will be highlighted as soon as it it available.
