SAXOPHONE and piano jazz duo Ian Millar and Dominic Spencer will bring 'very cool music' to Embsay on the afternoon of Saturday, January 27.
Ian and Dominic, based in Edinburgh, Scotland, are special in the UK jazz community in that they take their blend of melodic jazz standards and original compositions to rural communities all over the UK. They use programmable lighting and table lights to create a 'wonderful intimate atmosphere' for the music.
The duo - described by Three Weeks Magazine as playing 'very cool music' that appeals to jazz novices as well as hardcore enthusiasts' tell stories of their travels in their tour bus - an old converted Yorkshire Ambulance, in an entertaining evening of creative music and enthusiastic joy.
They have embarked on many rural tours under their “Jazz in the Village” series of concerts, playing in hundreds of halls, often bringing jazz for the first time to remote communities, performing in intimate settings to appreciative audiences.
Ian said: “We are delighted to be performing all over the UK in a variety of venues with many sell out concerts and record sales in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival."
Dominic added: “We are now also making many return visits to venues up and down the country. Throughout lock down we called ourselves the 'socially distanced duo' now we’re getting out and meeting our audience again."
Millar and Spencer will be at Embsay and Eastby Village Institute, Main Street, Embsay at 3pm on Saturday, January 27. Tickets £12; free for accompanied under 16s. Refreshments included in the price. Tickets from shona.watson325@gmail.com or phone 01756 700757
