FIVE members of the Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) will be setting out this weekend on the Montane Spine Race - a non-stop race along the length of the Pennine Way and considered to be amongst the toughest endurance races in the world.
Of the team - Simon Oxley, Craig Perkins, Heather Eastwood, and Graham Hughes will race 108 miles from Edale to Hawes in the MRT Challenger South, starting tomorrow (Saturday); while Mike Bottomley will be racing 160 miles from Hardraw to Kirk Yetholm, starting on Monday (January 15).
With temperatures forecast to drop over the next few days, the team is likely to face bogs, dales, and blizzards - and whatever else the weather decides to throw at them.
The runners are raising money for CRO - donations can be made at JustGiving on https://www.justgiving.com/page/cro-spine-challengers-2024?; and updates on their progress will be posted on the CRO Facebook page; and in the Craven Herald.
