A PARKINSON'S support group for Craven is in danger of closing unless it gets a new group co-ordinator.

Parkinson’s UK’s Skipton and District support group, which has been running for 31 years, provides information, support, friendship, and social activities for people affected by the condition. However, with volunteer numbers in decline, the group could be forced to shut if the vital role isn’t filled, leaving the area without a dedicated support group.

The existing team of enthusiastic volunteers is in need of a group coordinator to assist with its smooth running. The charity says it is a flexible role that has a big impact on people’s lives, helping to ensure people with Parkinson’s can access meetings and activities that make a real difference.

Cara Connolly, local volunteer officer, Parkinson’s UK said: “Activities provided by local groups are a lifeline for people in their area who are living with Parkinson’s, but unless new volunteers step forward people could be left without the support they need.

“If you can spare a few hours a month we’d love to welcome you to volunteer alongside the amazing people who are part of the group - because with your support we really can change lives.

“As well as making a big difference to people living with Parkinson’s in your local community, volunteering is a great opportunity to try something new, have new experiences, and meet new people."

The Skipton support group meets on the third Thursday of each month at The Hub in Skipton Town Hall from 2pm to 3:30pm.
