SKIPTON Film Club presents a double bill at its screening at the town's Plaza Cinema on the evening of Sunday, March 3 -'Reality' and 'Meshes of the Afternoon'.
A club spokesperson said: "Our main film is the work of the brilliant Tina Salter, who has adapted her own play “Is This A Room”, retitled for the screen “Reality”, after the main protagonist, Reality Winner, played here by rising star Sydney Sweeney, best known for her roles in TV dramas ‘Euphoria’ and ‘The White Lotus'. That Salter both scripted and directed the film indicates the emergence of a new and exciting talent.
"A different kind of reality comes from innovative filmmaker Maya Deren with her 1943 classic short experimental short film “Meshes Of The Afternoon”. The film, which also stars Deren, has been called the first ‘trance film’ as the viewer is drawn in and then lost in Daren’s groundbreaking use of camera and editing. As thrilling as it is strange, “Meshes” is a brilliant short film still influencing filmmakers today, as evidenced in the dreamlike sequences in Christopher Nolan’s film “Inception”.
"This will be the first time either of these films have been screened in Skipton – a fantastic combination of dream and reality. We think film lovers are in for a treat."
Members and non members welcome to the screening, at 5.15pm on March 3. More details on Facebook and Instagram.
