GARGRAVE Primary School's football champions of Craven sadly missed out in the North Yorkshire finals - after being the school's most successful team ever.
In the first round in Skipton, Gargrave's year five and six team played six games, won all six, scored 23 goals and didn't let in a single goal In the next round, the team won five, drew one, scored 19 goals, and conceded one goal - which put them through to the North Yorkshire finals representing Craven.
The finals, at York College, saw the team win both games, but snow stopped play and the tournament was abandoned. A few weeks later, the team returned for the re-started tournament, but sadly lost one game and drew two, which saw Gargrave knocked out, even though, it had beaten the two finalists earlier on in the tournament.
The players said: "Although we were incredibly disappointed, we are also very proud of our achievements to make it this far as no other team from Gargrave has ever progressed as far. We were also up against much larger schools than our small village school. In total, we won 14 games out 17, scored 46 goals and only conceded four goals overall."
The team thanked Mr Schindler for being its coach on the day; MC Sports and The Tempest Arms for sponsoring its new kit, and The Coniston Hotel for paying for the journey to York, and their parents for supporting them.
