CHURCHES in Settle and district will come together on Good Friday, March 29, for a dramatic presentation of Christ's Journey to The Cross.
The four part presentation, delivered live by actors, will start at 10.30am with The Last Supper at St John's Methodist Church, Church Street, Settle. From there, it will move to a depiction of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane in Millennium Gardens at 10.50am; to the Trial of Jesus at 11.10am in the Market Place, culminating at The Death of Jesus at 11.40am in the Parish Church grounds.
The ‘play on the move’ started in 2009 and has taken place every year, apart from in 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions. There has been some changes to the cast over the years, there are five new actors this year, but with others part of the production since it started.
Sally Waterson, producer of the drama, said: "All of the cast members are committed to give their best performance for this moving drama, which enacts the Bible account of the death of Jesus Christ, remembered each year on Good Friday."
The play does not include the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Day. It is however celebrated with a dawn service next to the Quaker Meeting House in Settle.
