LEEDS-based choir, the Leodis Consort will be joining Skipton Camerata for an Easter weekend performance of Bach's epic Mass in B minor in Skipton Town Hall on Bank Holiday Friday, March 29.
Leodis Consort, founded just last year, is dedicated to delivering high-quality, historically informed performances that showcase the beauty and richness of early music. For this Good Friday event the choir will sing Bach's B minor Mass with Skipton Camerata conducted by the orchestra's artistic director, Ben Crick.
Completed a year before his death, Bach's Mass in B minor is one of the pinnacles of human artistic achievement. Although conceived for the church, the B minor Mass expresses a full range of feelings conveying profound humanity whatever one's beliefs.
As well as being the choir's first appearance with Skipton Camerata, it's also Ben's first time conducting Bach's late masterpiece and he clearly relishes the prospect.
He said, "By the time Bach wrote this he was old and blind but there's nothing frail about this music. It's a demonstration of his supreme craftsmanship and a sublime final testament of his faith."
Bach's Mass in B minor is on Friday, March 29 at 7pm. Tickets are available from Skipton Town Hall and online at https://skiptontownhall.co.uk/whats-on/skipton-camerata-bachs-b-minor-mass/
