INGLEBOROUGH Archaeology Group will host a talk about the special relationship between the peaks, particularly Ingleborough and Penyghent, and a series of prehistoric monuments scattered around the Ingleborough Massif at its event on Monday, April 15 at 7.30pm at Ingleborough Community Centre in Ingleton.
Archaeologist Yvonne Luke has been researching and surveying the remains of Neolithic cairns here and elsewhere in the Dales for a long time. From this work she realised that the landscape positions and orientations of the monuments seem to have been very carefully chosen. Many of the monuments, in particular long cairns, line up on the distinctive local peaks.
This talk is one of a series organised by Ingleborough Archaeology Group for 2024. Talks later this year include: Skipton Woods; Lancaster Canal; Craven in the 14th Century; and Caves and Landscapes of Ingleborough.
All welcome, £3 for non-members.
