A MAN slipped while walking near Ingleborough on Tuesday (April 9) afternoon and with a suspected broken ankle was swiftly stretchered back to a waiting ambulance by a team of mountain rescue fell runners.

The 64-year old was on his way from the second highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks to Park Fell when he fell, resulting in a call to Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) at 4.49pm.

A spokesperson for Clapham based CRO said: "A ‘hasty party’ - comprising fell-runners from within the team carrying initial equipment - assessed and splinted the injury and put the patient into an insulated casualty bag.

"After further assessment by the team doctor, the patient was lifted onto a Bell stretcher and sledged/carried down to a team vehicle which took him to the Yorkshire Ambulance Service ambulance, waiting at the road-head. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery."
