Bolton Abbey Rector’s message: This Sunday is Whit Sunday when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples in Jerusalem. This is an important moment for the Church. Not only did the Holy Spirit come upon the disciples but it also galvanised them to go out into the world and to found the Christian Church here on earth. The coming of the Holy Spirit also reminds us that we all have different gifts to offer and that we all have our part to play in the life of the Church, however great or small. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit enables us to understand one another whatever race or culture we come from. We are all one Christian community with one accord. Let us take this opportunity to dedicate afresh our individual gifts to the Church in the power of the Holy Spirit.

After her initial training she was placed on the “Pick and Mix” counter and her experiences had members reminiscing and laughing throughout her talk. Like so many other high street stores, “woollies” is sadly missed. The business meeting followed and with the AGM coming up in June, members were asked how the delegates representing our group of WI s should vote on the proposed resolution concerning NHS dentistry improvements. A thank you card for the lovely flowers that we sent to Norma Bell on the occasion of her 90th birthday last month, was read out, and a trip to see Abba Mania at Burnley Mechanics in October was very well supported. Speak to Helen for information. The next meeting will take place on Thursday, June 13, in Salterforth Village Hall at 7.30pm when the speaker will be Rawden Kerr, from Great Harwood, “Why Do We Love A Town Crier”. Oyez! Oyez!
