'STILL' or 'sparkling' may be the choice made by many for their favourite bottled water but for artist Brian Burton the choice is between 'calm' or falling'.

His forthcoming exhibition, The Shape of Water, to take place at his studio in Hetton, explores the varied qualities of water as it appears in the Yorkshire Dales.

"Water can vary so much in it's personality," said Brian. "As a mild mannered lake it can relax your mood, become a feature for meditation, when it's lightly rippled surface reflects the sky above it, or it can stir your emotions when, in a frenzy, it catapults itself over a rockface".

Brian has produced a series of paintings of Catrigg Force, a favourite place for wild swimmers. He makes many sketches before developing finished works in his studio.

The exhibition, at his studio in the Old Coach House, Hetton, will take place from June 7 to June 9; and from June 14 to June 16, between 10am and 3pm.
