A WALKER who fell near Clapham badly injuring a knee was rescued by cave rescue members who were nearby carrying out a demonstration, in the first of two call-outs on Saturday.

The 30 year old male stumbled on a rock on a bridleway near Clapdale Farm on Saturday morning, close to where a search-dog demonstration was taking place. He heard a snap from one of his knees as he fell and was unable to go further.

A spokesperson for Cave Rescue Organisation said: "By coincidence, a few team members were supporting Search Dog Kez, and human assistant, in a search-dog demonstration event, just below Trowgill, so two of the team were driven down to the bridleway junction, to scramble up to the casualty. "The Land Rover continued down to Clapham, then this and a second Land Rover drove up to Clapdale with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Paramedics and other team members.

"Having been given mild pain relief, the casualty was ‘packaged’ then stretchered to CRO 3 for transportation down to the road ambulance."

Shortly afterwards, the team went to the aid of a 61 year old male climber who had reportedly fallen three metres at Twistleton Scar, Ingleton.

"Team members and air ambulance paramedics assessed him then put him into a vacuum mattress - a full body splint - and on to a stretcher. Team members carried this down, over the steep, rocky ground, to a more even area where the patient could be lifted into the helicopter. This flew down to the road near Twisleton Dale House to transfer him to a waiting road ambulance for the trip to hospital," said the spokesperson.
