NORTH Yorkshire Council says it is in the process of selling off land allocated for new housing in Skipton.

The council says it will soon be able to provide an update for the site at Airedale Avenue which at one time was to provide housing under a joint venture project between the former Craven District Council, and development partner, Barnfield.

Planning permission was submitted for more than 50 homes on the about six-acre site in 2019. It is part of a larger site that is allocated for housing in the Craven Local Plan, 2012-2032.

Last year, North Yorkshire Council approved the selling off of the land, after replacing the former Craven District Council.

At the time, North Yorkshire stipulated that any development must include eight affordable housing units for rent and eight affordable units for sale which would equate to 30 per cent of the total development if 53 homes are built.

North Yorkshire Council’s corporate director of resources, Gary Fielding, said: “We are in the process of selling the land at Airedale Avenue in Skipton. A further update will be available soon.”
