A “PEACEFUL SPOT” in Craven has been revealed as one of the best new campsites for tents in the UK this year.

Draughton Heights campsite, near Addingham, featured in a top travel guide by The Guardian and has been receiving rave reviews by visitors.

Campers can also make the most of fire pits and barbecues which are allowed on-site, which is surrounded by three lakes.

The Guardian described the campsite as a 'back-to-basics site and a peaceful spot for tents only.

“There is a toilet and shower block, and fire pits and barbecues are allowed. There are three lakes to attract wildlife, though sadly not for swimming.”

It adds: “This is hiking territory: it is a scenic walk along the River Wharfe and across stepping stones to Bolton Abbey, a 12th-century Augustinian priory, or a steeper climb to Beamsley Beacon for views across the moors.

“For shops, pubs and restaurants, it is a one-hour walk on a Roman road to Skipton (or a 10-minute drive) and a 15-minute drive to Ilkley.”

Although Draughton Heights is a new campsite, it has plenty of positive reviews already on Pitchup and has been 100 per cent recommended by those who have visited so far.

Someone left a review saying: “Excellent setting, with fantastic views. Brand new site and the owners are rightly proud of it.

“Showers toilets and communal kitchen are excellent. Little touches like shower gel are much appreciated. Water was lovely and hot too. Lots of space between pitches as well.”

Another added: “Brand new site and if they've started as they mean to go on they'll have plenty of happy campers.

“Some of the best facilities I've ever come across, the little touches like shower gel and shampoo in the shower, washing up liquid as well made all the difference, I was actually warm when I got out the shower which doesn't often happen when you're camping!

“Wonderful friendly, social able hosts who could not do enough for you and the location is idyllic if you need to escape as it's surround by the stunning Yorkshire Dales.

“Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality I'm sure my friends and I will be back!”
