A GUIDED walk around Smardale Gill Nature Reserve, near Kirkby Stephen, is due to take place on Wednesday, June 19.

The free event is one of a series run by the Yorkshire Dales environmental campaigning charity, Friends of the Dales. Cumbria Wildlife Trust will lead the five mile moderately difficult, circular guided walked around this exceptional reserve which occupies a substantial section of the disused railway line that once ran from Tebay to Darlington.

Walkers can look forward to seeing species-rich grassland and the industrial archaeology of the former railway line and viaduct. The walk starts at 10.30am and ends at 3pm. To book email: victoria.benn@friendsofthedales.org.uk
