SKIPTON Business Awards are back for another year - and with a new long service award, aimed at those businesses which have traded in the town for more than 20 years.

People are being encouraged to nominate shops, pubs, restaurants and service providers as a way of celebrating the hard work put in by the town's businesses and as a thank you for the services they provide for both residents and visitors all year round.

Organised by Skipton Business Improvement District (BID), nominations have to be in by July 9. An independent panel of judges will then come up with a shortlist of three businesses for each of the 12 categories and the winners revealed at a ceremony at Skipton Town Hall in October.

Sarah Howsen, BID manager, said they were asking for people to nominate any business they believe goes above and beyond to fly the flag of excellence and make the town somewhere special for residents and visitors.

The categories include retailer of the year, pub or bar of the year, tourism business, customer service team and an award for health and wellbeing business.

Businesses, even if they are not BID levy payers, can also nominate themselves, as long as they are based in Skipton - all people have to do is to write a minimum of 100 words as to why the business deserves an award.

Ms Howsen said: "We are thrilled to be able to launch the 2024 Skipton Business Awards. Last year was a huge success, it is a great way to celebrate the truly excellent businesses we have in our town.

"We know what an amazing range of businesses we have, and this is a chance for the public to say thank you to their favourite business too. This year we have included the long service award to say an extra big thank you to those businesses which have traded in and supported Skipton for more than 20 years. I’m sure it will be another fabulous evening when the winners are announced in October."

The awards categories are - retailer; pub/bar; restaurant; coffee shop; live entertainment venue; best new business; professional services business; tourism business; hair and beauty salon; health and wellbeing business; customer service team, and long service award.

Nominations opened on June 1 and will close on Tuesday, July 9.
