ONE of the UK’s most successful songwriters, Mark Chadwick, of the Levellers, is appearing at Settle Victoria Hall on Saturday, June 15.

Mark has co-written 20 chart singles and six top 40 albums, including a number one, as part of the Levellers, the band he has fronted for over 25 years, and whose hits include What a Beautiful Day, One Way and Just the One.

Still going strong, the Levellers are festival favourites and have cemented their cherished status with headline performances at Glastonbury, Isle Of Wight, Cambridge Folk Festival, Bestival and Boomtown and many European and UK events and in 2003 they successfully created their own annual Beautiful Days Festival which takes place in August at Escot Park in Devon.

During this time Mark has released two solo albums ‘All the Pieces’ and ‘Moment’ and his upfront and personal solo performance will see him play a mixture of material from these albums and Levellers classics. Be warned, Mark will have you up dancing.

On Friday (June 14), evening at Victoria Hall, there will be the launch of Settle Shed offering people a first look at a brand new venture for social and environmental sustainability in Settle.

People are invited to go along and find out how they can get involved. Located in the old Dugdale‘s Garden Shed shop, next to Victoria Hall, the premises will be renovated as a base for social enterprises and collaborative projects to benefit the Settle community.

A spokesperson said: "At this stage, plans are still developing and fundraising is our priority, but we have a couple of projects that are already planned."

They include a repair cafe, where people can take things and get them repaired, for free; but with donations welcome, and an 'invigorate plastics' project, which aims to try out new ways of reprocessing waste plastics. The drop-in event will run from 6.30pm to 8pm.

On July 3, there will be two film screenings, Wicked Little Letters in the afternoon, based on a true story and staring Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley and Timothy Spall; and in the evening, Alcarras, awarded the Golden Bear for best film at the Berlin Film Festival.

Also coming up in July is live pro wrestling, the Super Settle Show - a family-friendly professional wrestling event, and The Eddie Reader Band.
