CONSERVATIVE Julian Smith has been re-elected MP for Skipton and Ripon.
The result came an hour and a half after the announcement at around 5am that Labour had won the general election in a landslide victory. The result was the largest general election defeat for the Conservatives in modern times.
Mr Smith, who has held the seat since 2010, took 18,833 votes to Labour's Malcolm Birks' 17,183.
Andy Brown, for the Greens took 3,446; Simon Garvey, Reform UK; 8,516; Andrew Murday, Liberal Democrat, 4,194; Ryan Kett ,Yorkshire Party, 627; Guy Phoenix, Heritage Party, 158, and Keith Tordoff, Independent, 493.
The turn out in Skipton and Ripon was 67.69 per cent.
