PROCEEDS raised from recent fundraising events in Long Preston have been handed over to Scotty's Little Soldiers - a charity that supports bereaved military children.

The charity supports the children with counselling and holiday breaks in the UK.

A cheque for £600 was handed over to Michael Barnett, on behalf of the charity, from event organisers Katy Attewell, Teena Feather, Annette Metcalf and Margaret Wood.

Recent events that went to support the charity included a Swing City Band night, and from donations received at the village's D-Day commemoration events. Preparations for the D-D commemorations began in November last year with the village craft group organising the knitting and crocheting of hundreds of poppies that graced the trees on the village approaches and were used to create a 'Lest we Forget' banner. There was also a display by the village Heritage group in the village hall featuring villagers who had taken part in D-Day and the Second World War.
