A DIRECTOR at a Skipton law firm ran the London Marathon and organised a village festival, raising funds for Manorlands Hospice.

Solicitor Jenny Barron, a director at AWB Charlesworth Solicitors, completed April's marathon in three hours and 57 minutes. She then organised Embsay Festival, a family event including live bands, a bouncy castle, refreshments, beer tent and a raffle, that was attended by around 400 people.

Together, the two events raised £5,980 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, the law firm's chosen charity for 2024.

Jenny, who heads up the firm's busy wills, trust and probate department, said: “Manorlands is immensely important, and we enjoy supporting them in every way we can. Many of our staff and clients have links to the hospice, so it’s an absolute privilege to assist this fantastic local cause.”

She added: “I’m never doing the London Marathon again. It was hard work – the day and all the preparations and training. But the festival – that might become an annual event, it was so much fun."

Adam Brunskill, senior community fundraiser for Manorlands said: "On behalf of everyone at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice I'd like to say a huge thank you to Jenny for all her amazing fundraising as she took on the London Marathon. This incredible total shows that hard work really does pay off. We are incredibly proud of Jenny for what she has achieved, with these vital funds helping to make sure we are there for more people when it matters most."

Jenny would like to give a big thank you to all her sponsors: AWB Charlesworth, Crag and Co, R McDowell, Tiffany, Wilman and Wilman, and Woolers. She would also like to thank everyone who helped out, allowing the festival to be such a hit, and to all those who attended the event.
