Rector’s Message: This Sunday is the Eighth Sunday after Trinity where we are warned about false prophets. We often use the phrase ‘a wolf in sheep’s clothing’ but, in both our secular and religious life, the phrase begs the question how do we know what is true and what is false? In our secular lives, this is a challenge for us all in this ‘post truth’ age and the advent of ‘fake news’. We need to exercise great caution and not be swayed by sound bites and deliberate misinformation. When it comes to religion, the Bible says that ‘by the works of the prophet you will know them’. Just like discerning truth in our secular lives, this is not easy either. However, when it comes to the Good News in the Bible, we can be sure of what we are reading for, as St John said ‘These things are written so that you might believe’.
