A pair of local sports’ clubs are pushing to raise as much money as possible for two charities close to the communities’ hearts.

The two clubs in question are Ingleton Football Club and Ingleton Cricket Club, and they will be doing their best to repay some of the tireless efforts put in by their volunteers.

Graham Standring, known as ‘Tresco, has been a pivotal figure at the Cricket Club ever since he moved into the area both playing and helping out on the committee as treasurer.

Steve Murray, likewise, is a stalwart at Ingleton Football Club with his surname being synonymous with the Club.

Unfortunately, these two men have been facing their own personal battles after being diagnosed with Blood Cancer in recent times.

After the years of selfless support from the pair, Ingleton Football Club and Ingleton Cricket Club have decided to show support in return.

The two clubs will be hosting a charity night; jam packed with entertainment and opportunities to raise funds whilst pulling in the whole community along the way.

Graham has chosen Blood Cancer UK as his selected charity given the support, they have given him and his family since his diagnosis.

Steve has chosen The Christie Charity who have done lots of investigation work and proven a vital support network for him during his journey against this disease.

On Friday 26 July, the clubs will be staging a T20 Cricket Match on the Community Centre field between a Select XI from the Cricket club and a Select XI from the Football club.

Alongside the cricket game the Football Club will be opening the bar whilst the Cricket Club will be lighting the BBQ, so all refreshment needs are ticked off and profits will be going straight into the charity pot.

The fun continues into the night, with the after-match being held at the Ingleborough Working Men’s Club, the Top Club, and Alice and The Looking Glass will be performing.

Mark Dobson, Ingleton Football Club chairman has said: “I am appealing to all local businesses to see if you can help in any way at all.

“Whether that be a donation, a prize donation or just help with ideas or anything on the night.

“We will be running a raffle and maybe an auction depending on the prizes we manage to secure for the night. I have emailed and messaged celebrities, sports people, sports clubs, and large businesses; absolutely everyone I could think of to see what I could secure, and I have already gathered various exciting prizes. If you can donate anything at all, I would be so grateful, but I also understand where this may not be possible.”

“The only outgoing cost I have, due to a fantastic local people chipping in is the band, so even a donation towards that would be so welcomed and would mean that all money raised on the night would be straight into the charity pots.”

He added: “The players who will be taking to the field have been asked to seek sponsorship to play.

“I have asked them to raise a fee of £20 minimum to play and again this money will go straight into the pot and split between the charities.

“If you are interested in that then I will pass this onto any players struggling to secure their own and my aim is to then make this known on social media.”
