SKIPTON Business Improvement District (BID) is gearing up to celebrate Yorkshire Day on Thursday,  August 1, with a slew of free, fun activities planned for the whole family to enjoy.

Between 10am and 4pm, the High Street will come alive with everything from live music performances by the Flat Cap Band and Great Yorkshire Morris, to Yorkshire themed crafting and a football shootout.

Children will have the chance to engage in face painting and Yorkshire quizzes, and even to ride a rodeo sheep.

For those looking for something a little different, the Yorkshire Dialect Society will be presenting an amusing talk at the Skipton Library at 10.45am.

Meanwhile, at 11.49am, the town crier will read the Yorkshire Proclamation, alongside town criers throughout Yorkshire, to mark 1149 years since the founding of 'God's own county.'

A small Yorkshire themed market will provide fine crafts, food, and drink, all made and sourced in Yorkshire.

Skipton BID Manager Sarah Howsen said: "Yorkshire Day was a great success last year even though the sun didn’t shine, and we are hoping this year will be a bigger success.

"There will be a full day of free family entertainment so we hope everyone will come along and celebrate what it is to be from Yorkshire."
