A NEW homes plan for Gargrave which was deferred after councillors raised concerns about highway safety has once again been recommended for approval - but with an additional footway.

RN Wooler and Co's plan for 38 new homes off Marton Road was recommended for approval at the meeting of North Yorkshire Council's Skipton and Ripon planning committee meeting in June.

A decision was deferred for consultation with highways to clarify its position on highways safety and to ask it there was any possible mitigation measures.

Councillors at the meeting on Tuesday, August 6 at Belle Vue Square, Skipton, will be once again recommended to approve the application. The report to members gives an updated response from the council's highways department. "After a further site visit and review of information and documents provided traffic volumes will increase but not to the detriment of pedestrian safety.

"However, it is considered appropriate that a new footway be provided for pedestrians from Walton Close to Walton Avenue. This will run on the Northerly side of Marton Road thus allowing footfall from the new development to use the new link to Walton Close, cross Marton Road and progress to the existing footpath alongside the river towards Pennine Way."

The area planning committee meeting on Tuesday, August 6 will take place at 1pm at Belle Vue Square, Broughton Road, Skipton.
