PASSENGERS on the scenic Settle to Carlisle railway can now enjoy a cup of artisan coffee courtesy of a Skipton-based coffee roaster.

Kane Pulford-Roberts, of The Clubhouse Coffee Roasters and whose coffee shop The Clubhouse Coffee & Cycles is on Newmarket Street, created a special blend for sale on the trolley service.

Provided by the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, the trolley service aims to highlight the finest local produce along the route.

The Skipton company's coffee is now available on all Settle to Carlisle railway services.

Mr Pulford-Roberts nurtured his coffee passion during lockdown, and has since ventured all the way to South America to meet the farmer producing the coffee beans.

Some of the beans being used now were handpicked by Mr Pulford-Roberts during his time in Peru.

Mr Pulford-Roberts said: "Having my coffee available on the Settle Carlisle refreshment trolley is amazing.

"I am passionate about good, sustainable and ethical coffee and to share this with the many visitors and local people who travel on the line is wonderful.

"By roasting our own coffee beans we have the control to choose the flavours and quality of our coffee and ensure it is sourced ethically."

Susie Payne, Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company's operational manager, said: "We are always looking for new suppliers along our line, and when I tasted Kane’s coffee and heard the story of how he sources his beans ethically and sustainably he was the ideal business to work with.

"We want to provide the millions of passengers we service each year with the very best refreshments, and support our communities along the line.

"Using Kane’s special blend of coffee is a great example of how we can work together to support local businesses and provide an excellent service to our passengers."

Elsewhere, a new Settle Carlisle ale has been concocted in honour of the trolley service's 20th anniversary by Penrith-based Eden Brewery.

And members of the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company have participated in a photoshoot for a Women's Institute-style calendar for 2025, with 10 per cent of the profits going to Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Clubhouse Coffee drinks, the new ale, and the 2025 calendar will all be available from the trolley service this summer.

Coffee and calendars are also purchasable at https://settle-carlisle.co.uk/shop/.
