Bolton Abbey

Rector’s message: On this tenth Sunday after Trinity, we learn first that Christ ‘wept over Jerusalem’. He was bitterly disappointed by what he found in the holy city and foresaw the eventual overthrow of Jerusalem by the Romans in AD 71. There is no doubt that Jesus would have continued to weep over the millennia and would have wept today, as strife and conflict still afflict the Middle East. In addition to weeping over Jerusalem, Christ also overturned the money changers in the Temple reminding us that his Temple was a place of prayer. We might also like to ask ourselves why the Church is in decline today and what Christ overturn might seek to overturn in the Church if he went into the Temple today?
