Airton

Quaker Services: Quakers in Airton have regular quiet meetings for worship every Sunday at 2pm in the ancient Quaker Meeting House by the Green on Calton Lane. Worship lasts for an hour.

Refreshments in the Barn follow each meeting.

Drop-in art and craft sessions are held on the last Thursday of each month, 10am-2pm, from June to September, and everyone is welcome, whatever their level of creative ability, to come and learn, create, connect with others, and try out something new. The next one will be on August 29.

The Meeting House is open every day of the week for those who need a place of refreshment and peace in the midst of a turbulent world. There is also bunk barn accommodation for up to 12 people, and meeting space may be hired.

For more information please email airtonbarn@gmail.com or call 01729 900018.

Bolton Abbey

Bolton Priory: Rector’s Message – “On this Eleventh Sunday after Trinity, we are reminded of the wisdom of Solomon. When asked by God what he would like as a reward for his devotion, he does not ask for gold or silver but for wisdom instead. This is an act of great humility and finds favour in God’s eyes particularly as he does not seek material or political reward. Perhaps there is a lesson for us all in this story. We spend so much of our lives striving for material or political gain, but all too often, at great personal expense. The New Testament reminds us ‘every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted’. In these politically turbulent times, it is worth reminding ourselves of the wisdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The Church Office is open on Mondays and Fridays until 3pm and Wednesdays until 12pm.

Settle

Settle Parish Church: Last Saturday the sun shone for our ‘Teddy's Olympic Family Fun Day,’ making the event hugely enjoyable for everyone who came along and for all the folk who worked so hard, helping in so many ways -  putting up bunting, baking, carting chairs and tables, ringing bells and organising the Tower Experience, putting together a wonderful Teddy’s Graveyard Treasure Hunt and  loaning us a super BBQ, cooking burgers, serving teas, washing up, running stalls, putting teddies safely on the zip wire, and overseeing the bouncy castle. To them all we say "Thank You so much.”

There was a great response to the 'Best Dressed Teddy in an Olympic outfit,’ the font was covered in very sporty looking teddies. Children had obviously enjoyed creating outfits. The opportunity to send teddy down the zip wire from the church tower and across the churchyard was popular with all ages. Brave teddies were given a little prayer sticker on their tummies before the adventure began!

It was a super community event and we are enormously grateful to all the amazing people who supported us, both locals and holidaymakers who saw the bunting, heard the music and smelt the bacon, burgers and sausages.  Special thanks to the local businesses which donated raffle prizes - Drake and Macefield, The House that Jack Built, Creative Hair Studio and Wholesale Bee. Also thanks to friends who sponsored the musicians, The Retrolettes.  We were pleased to share the event with local crafts folk too. The ‘Giggleswick Bears’ and Josie's spinning wheel created much interest. And finally thanks to Vicar, Rev Julie Clarkson who came up with the original idea, for her prayers and vision which ensured that the sun shone and everyone smiled all day!

On Sunday, August 11, Rev Julie Clarkson leads the service of Holy Communion at 11am. All are welcome. Stay for coffee and chat afterwards.
