ERMYSTED'S Grammar School in Skipton has praised the 'tremendous achievement' of its A-level students.

The school library was buzzing with animated conversation this morning after students received their results and confirmation of destinations.

Headteacher, Michael Evans, praised the "tremendous achievement of the students, with 12 - 11 per cent of the year group - attaining a clean sweep of three or more of the top grades of A*, with one third of the year group, attaining an A grade or above in at least three subjects."

He added: "Most importantly, so many of our students have secured their chosen destination and are now looking forward to the next stage of their education and career. We wish them all the best in the future.”

George Barrett, assistant head with responsibility for the sixth form, said he was proud of the year group’s achievements, and in particular their resilience, determination, and support of one another.

This was only the second year that the A-levels were brought in line with pre-pandemic levels, meaning that nationally the percentage of top grades was expected to remain lower.

Adam Jackson, deputy headteacher, said: "The students have shown great character and fortitude. Their efforts, supported by the dedication and commitment of the staff, has produced a fantastic set of results. It has been wonderful to see so many happy faces in school and to hear students speaking excitedly about their next steps. I would like to extend my congratulations to the year group.”

The vast majority of students secured a place at university for September across an impressive range of institutions in the UK and abroad. Others will now commence training or enter the workplace, with a few intending to take a gap year and apply in 2025.
