THE rain stayed away for Saturday's Gargrave Show - the first of Craven's agricultural shows of the year.
The crowds turned out in force for the 118th show, held as usual in front of the grand Eshton Hall, on a day that saw the sun make a rare appearance this summer, and no mud underfoot.
Alongside the cattle, sheep and horse classes, including junior sheep-handling, there was a dog show and a display of classic and vintage cars, vehicles and tractors - both restored and in their 'working clothes'.
Ferret-racing was as popular as ever with show-goers, there were plenty of trade stalls on the showfield, tasty refreshments, a beer tent and in the produce and handicrafts tent, children excelled with arts and crafts classes.
There were also classes in stick-making, photographs, baking and floral displays on the theme of the Paris Olympics.
Also, magnificent Shire horses, show-jumping classes for both ponies and horses, a mounted fancy dress competition and a parade of champions. Finishing off the day was children's sports, an egg-throwing competition and terrier racing.
Show secretary, Paul Watson, said it had been a very successful event with a very high number of vintage and classic cars and vehicles, and also a high number of entries into the dog show.
"I think it went very well. everyone seemed to be having a good time, " he said.
Show goer, Janice Wilson, a first time visitor to the show, with her family, said: "We're really pleased we came along, the weather has turned out nice too. The sheep and cattle have been our favourites, its been so nice to be able to see them so close and to talk to their owners, everyone has been so friendly, and we've found out loads; the showjumping was good too, and the Shire horses, so beautiful."
Bentham farmer, Mya Easterby, of Lanehouse Farm, was happy with her day after winning reserve supreme champion with her in-calf, Limousin Tilly.
It was also the end of an era for fell race commentator, Roger Ingham, who was calling it a day at Gargrave Show, due to failing health. Roger, 80, will be making his last appearance as a race commentator at Kilnsey Show on Tuesday, August 27.
Roger, fell into commentating after being handed a microphone after competing in the crag race at Kilnsey in the 1950s and went on to commentate at Gargrave and Malham shows.
The results of this year's show are as follows.
