A DELICIOUS alternative to honey or jam is now available and handmade in Craven.
Silvana Moroncini, of Gargrave, looked back to a childhood growing up in Argentina when she wanted an alternative spread to put on bread, pancakes, and even ice-cream.
Dulce de leche, originally from Argentina, is made by slowly cooking milk and sugar, stirring on a low heat for several hours.
"It was my favourite breakfast and snack when growing up in Argentina - there is no household without an open jar of dulce de leche in their fridge," says Silvana.
"I get a weekly supply of the best local milk from our local milkman for my dulce de leche production."
The result is a smooth and creamy spread with a sweet caramel-like flavour - and can be used on pancakes, bread, icecream, as a topping for cakes, or as a complement to meat. Silvana was at the recent Gargrave Show selling jars of dulce de leche to show goers and will be at Saturday's Malham Show and at Kilnsey Show on Tuesday, August 27.
