STUDENTS at Craven College in Skipton are celebrating achieving success in GCSEs and Level-2 qualifications.
A total of 327 students took Maths GCSE, and 255 students took English GCSE at the college; there was a 94 per cent pass rate in maths, and a 93 per cent pass rate in English. Overall, 200 courses for qualifications up to Level-2 achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.
Hayley Thompson, who returned to study maths as an adult, today was celebrating after passing with a grade 4. Hayley needed the qualification in order to progress in her career with the NHS working for theatre services at Airedale Hospital, Steeton.
"I feel amazing", she said after learning of her result. "This has been two years of hard work, I felt disheartened not passing the first time around, but I’ve had such a good bond with my tutor Jeanette Walsh, who has supported me so much through my studies, and I’m so thankful I’ve now passed!”
Another student, who has been balancing her studies with work and family life, said: “It’s been hard, but my studies have also been my retreat, my time to focus on what I want. I would advise any adults thinking of getting their Maths or English to push themselves as it’s worth it in the end.”
Jaden Howitt also achieved grade 4 for her GCSE English. Gaining her qualification pass was four years in the making and Jaden achieved it alongside managing her dyslexia. She said: “I’ve felt really supported whilst studying at college and I’ve loved the tutors I’ve had. Gaining my GCSE English now means I can go on to further studies and I’m considering enrolling on a childcare course at Craven College.”
Sally Gwinnett, delighted with her grade 5 in GCSE English, said: “I’ve been thinking about getting my English qualification for years, but hadn’t had the confidence to do it until now, but it’s always been something I’ve wanted to achieve. It was tough getting back into the swing of revising but now I’m considering studying for my Maths GCSE."
Anita Lall, Principal and CEO of Craven College, said: “We’re immensely proud of our GCSE and Level -2 students. These qualifications are vital to allow our students to continue their studies and to embark on a successful working life and we congratulate everyone receiving their results today.
Enrolment for September 2024 starts today, and we urge anyone who has received results and is undecided or unsure of their next steps, to come into College and speak to us about enrolling on a course.”
Wendy Newall, Head of Department for English and Maths added, “We're delighted for our adult learners who have returned to education to achieve their Maths and English GCSEs and congratulate them all on their results.
Maths and English are fundamental skills for careers, and we're offering enrolment for our adult learners from today at our Aireville Campus for anyone who would like to discuss their options”
Those receiving their results today who have not yet applied for a course starting this September, can still enrol on a course at Craven College. Craven College offers a wide range of Further Education courses from entry level to Level 3, T-Levels and Apprenticeships. Enrolment 2024 starts from today (August 22) at Aireville Campus and visitors will have the opportunity to speak to tutors and Careers Teams about their next steps.
