THE owners of two dogs will have been grateful for the efforts of the Grassington-based Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association this bank holiday weekend.
Yesterday (Sunday), the team was called out to Guisecliffe, near Pateley Bridge, after a working cocker spaniel had fallen around 13 feet down a hole. The nine year old dog, called Scout, was hauled back to the surface by UWFRA team members using an animal rescue bag and a haul system.
Just a week ago, the team successfully rescued a 10 year old labradoodle who had fallen down a hole in the same area.
On Saturday, an UWFRA team received a call about a three-year old Border Terrier called Milly who had gone into the River Wharfe at Kettlewell after a ball and had been swept downstream towards Grassington.
A UWFRA spokesperson said: "A full team and water call out was made to search upstream from Grassington. We were just about to notify the fire and rescue service and before the team mobilised from The Hut (headquarters) the owner called to confirm that Milly had been found safe and well at a nearby campsite. We hope Milly is none the worse for her little adventure."
